BuilderSheet started on a job site, not in a startup office. Our founding team comes from custom home building — managing subs, tracking costs, and trying to figure out actual profit at the end of every project. We also happen to have deep software engineering backgrounds.

When we looked for tools, the options were discouraging. Platforms like Buildertrend and Buildbook are feature-rich but designed for larger operations — with pricing and complexity to match. If you're running a big team across many projects, they make sense. For a builder doing a handful of custom homes a year, it's overkill.

Then there's JobTread — better price, solid product. But still more tool than most builders need. Scheduling, CRM, invoicing — features that add cost and complexity when all you really want is to know your numbers.
